New Delhi: Star India batter Virat Kohli has been named in Delhi’s squad for the next two matches of the Ranji Trophy but his participation in the tournament is subject to availability. The right-handed batter has struggled to score runs in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He only managed to score just 190 runs in 9 innings despite smashing a hundred in the first Test in Perth.

Kohli was dismissed similarly on all eight occasions as he chased deliveries well outside the off stump. The 36-year-old has witnessed a huge dip in form in the last five years when it comes to Test cricket, scoring just five hundreds.

The star Indian batter last played in the Ranji Trophy for Delhi in 2012. If Kohli turns up, it will be the first time in 13 years that he will play a domestic match. However, his participation in Delhi’s next Ranji Trophy against Saurashtra is doubtful as he is nursing a niggle.

It is learnt that Kohli has informed the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) top brass that he has a neck niggle that he sustained during the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Sydney. He was treated by the physio there and as of now, his participation in the next Ranji match is doubtful.

BCCI issues strong guidelines for Indian cricketers

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued strong guidelines for centrally contracted players to “promote unity and positive environment in the dressing room”. The board has asked every player to play domestic cricket and noncompliance can result in players not being picked in the national team.

It could also result in deductions from the central contract retainer and a ban on playing in the Indian Premier League. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have already made themselves available for the next round matches of the Ranji Trophy. However, Rohit Sharma’s participation in Mumbai’s next Ranji Trophy fixture against Jammu and Kashmir is still unclear.
