New Delhi: Liverpool forward Diogo Jota’s fitness will be assessed before he can take part in Saturday’s game against Brentford. Ahead of the clash, Arne Slot remained doubtful about the 28-year-old’s participation in the game. The Portugal international player had returned in December after being sidelined for sustaining an upper-body impact injury at the end of October.

During the Reds’ clash against the in-form Nottingham Forest, Jota came off the bench in the City ground to help the team take a point from the draw with his 66th-minute strike. Jota had reported some discomfort following his performance and Slot confirmed that he hadn’t trained with the team on Thursday. The Dutch manager noted that Jota was “important for the team’s amazing performance so far and only will know about the latter’s availability on Saturday.

Liverpool have taken 47 points from 20 games and are sitting at the top of the table with four points clear of Arsenal. Solt in his interaction noted that Jota had some discomfort but continued to play in order to finish the game. Luis Diaz also had reported a sore throat but the Colombian is most likely to be training.

During the interaction, Slot was asked if Jota had some specific training programmes to maintain his fitness to which he replied that every individual had a different to cater to the individual’s needs. Slot further said that while players did similar programmes, all players wanted to improve themselves in some areas or prevent injuries.

Slot maintained that there were individuals who kept an eye on Jota to prevent him from sustaining injuries. Slot was further asked if Jota’s injury could affect academy striker Jayden Danns’s potential loan transfers in order to get more senior team minutes. Slot replied that there were many factors to consider before a player was indeed loaned out.

Slot said the concerns regarding loaning a player always revolved around how good a player was. Of course, Jota wasn’t expected to be out for a prolonged time as well as they already had enough no.9 options. He has said that Danns had been good for the side and hence they need to make decisions according to the club’s best interest for the future.

Arne Slot confirmed on Thursday that Liverpool’s Diogo Jota faced some discomfort after his stunning performance against Nottingham Forest, where his goal secured a draw.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
