New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav has a special connection with the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. It was at this very stadium, that Surya began his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and remained with the franchise from 2012 to 2017. While the cricketing world witnessed SKY’s full potential at Mumbai Indians, he caught the eye of the fans during his stint with KKR by playing innovative shots, particularly the scoop shots.

Life has come full circle for Surya, who returns to the iconic venue as the captain of the Indian cricket team 12 years after he started his IPL journey with the Kolkata-based franchise.

SKY will lead India in the 5-match T20I series against England with the first match set to be played on Wednesday at Eden Gardens.

SKY relives his Eden Garden journey

In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on its official X (formerly Twitter), Surya relived his journey at the Eden Gardens. He started by speaking Bengali with Arshdeep Singh and greeted him “Bhalo, Paaji?” and the India seamer also responded with “Bhalo”.

Surya also shared his love for ‘mishti doi’, a traditional Bengali dessert and revealed that he eats it on his cheat days.

The swashbuckling batter expressed his pride on leading India and said that he had never though in his wildest dreams to be a captain of the Indian cricket team.

SKY also hailed India coach Gautam Gambhir, who was the captain of KKR during Surya’s time at the franchise.

India and England will lock horns on a white-ball series including five T20Is and three ODI matches. The tour begins with the 20-over series with the opening match scheduled to be held Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22, Wednesday.
