Union Budget 2025 Key Highlights: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her eighth Union Budget 2025 on Saturday, announcing a host of measures aimed at reducing the fiscal deficit and potential income tax relief, especially for the lower middle class high after Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked the goddess of wealth to uplift the poor and middle class.
The Budget for the fiscal year beginning April 2025 (FY2025-26) will be the 14th consecutive Budget under the Narendra Modi government since 2014, including two interim Budgets presented before the general elections in 2019 and 2024.
Appointed as finance minister after Modi’s re-election in 2019, she presented her first Budget on July 5, 2019. She carried the Budget documents in a red cloth folder secured with a string and adorned with the national emblem.
Here are the highlights of Union Budget 2025:
- Centre to provide an additional 40,000 units of affordable housing which will be completed in 2025.
- A new fund of funds for startups will be established with an additional Rs 10,000 crore, complementing the existing government contribution of Rs 10,000 crore. Additionally, a new scheme will support 5 lakh first-time entrepreneurs from among women, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes.
- Center for excellence in Artificial Intelligence to be set up in the country.
- 50,000 Atal Labs to be set up in schools in the next five years.
- National Food Technology Institute to be set up in Bihar.
- The government will support the National Cooperative Development Corporation in its lending operations for the cooperative sector.
- Finance Minister Sitharaman announces a 5-year mission to promote cotton production.
- A urea Plant is to be set up in Assam to augment urea supply further. The plant with an annual capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tons will be set up in Namrup and three dormant urea plants in the eastern region had been reopened.
- India is the fastest growing economy: “Our development track record of the past 10 years and structural reforms have drawn global attention. Confidence in India’s capability and potential has only grown in this period. We see the next five years as a unique opportunity to realize ‘Sabka Vikas’, stimulating balanced growth of all regions,” Nirmala Sitharaman says.
- The proposed development measures in Budget 2025 span ten broad areas focusing on Garib, Youth, Annadata and Nari.
