New Delhi: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday announced the squad of Mumbai men’s cricket team for the upcoming Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match against Haryana, scheduled to start on February 8 to 12. Veteran player Ajinkya Rahane will lead the 18-member squad announced by the senior selection committee of MCA.
India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Shivam Dube have been included after the duo completed their international assignment in the recent concluded T20I series against England. The only other change in the squad after Mumbai’s last group fixture against Meghalaya was left-arm quick Harsh Tanna coming in as a replacement for batter Shreyas Gurav.
Suryakumar last played for Mumbai in the whites in their group match against Maharashtra in October last year. Since then, he left for the international duty and then played for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well as the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Interestingly, the Indian T20I star batter has played only two first-class matches since featuring in the final of the 2023 Duleep Trophy for West Zone. Dube was part of the Mumbai’s match against Jammu and Kashmir, the same match where Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were included. This was the only game for Dube in the red-ball format this season.
Rohit, Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer were released from the squad after Mumbai lost to J&K by five wickets. The trio attended the BCCI award ceremony in Mumbai.
Mumbai rode on the all-round brilliance of Shardul Thakur to rout Meghalaya by an innings and 456 runs to earn a bonus point and thanks to J & K’s win against Baroda by a heavy margin of 182 runs. Mumbai eventually pipped Baroda in Group A to seal the second spot for the Ranji knockouts.
Mumbai squad for QF match: Ajinkya Rahane (C), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Suryakumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad, Shivam Dube, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Suryansh Shedge, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Avasthi, Sylvester Dsouza, Royston Dias, Atharva Ankolekar, Harsh Tanna
