Dehradun: Archer Aman Saini doubled his happiness on Wednesday by aiming for the gold medal in the compound team event of archery at the National Games. In the Archery compound division (Men’s team), Aman Saini, Abhishek Verma, Priyansh and Madhur won the gold medal during ongoing National Games in Uttarakhand.
Aman had arrived overnight after attending his wedding reception on February 1 to participate in the ranking round held in Dehradun on January 2. Aman had promised his wife, Arjita Jain, that he would win the gold medal in the National Games.
Aman reached Dehradun immediately after marriage to participate
Delhi archer Aman Saini, a resident of Nangli village in Delhi and an income tax inspector, fulfilled his promise to his wife by winning the gold medal in the compound team event. Due to his passion for participating in the national games, Aman reached Dehradun immediately after marriage to participate. Aman shared that his wife had encouraged him to return with a gold medal while he was on his way to the National Games. Along with winning the gold medal, he is happy to have fulfilled his promise to his wife.
Couldn’t prepare due to marriage
Aman mentioned that he was unable to prepare for 12 days due to his marriage. However, through mental practice, he was able to control his mind and focus, hitting the target accurately to win the gold medal. Aman has previously won gold medals in the World Cup held in Korea and Turkey, a silver medal in the World Championship in Jakarta, and one gold and two bronze medals in the World University Games held in China in 2023.
A national medalist in Taekwondo
Aman also has been a national medalist in Taekwondo in the past. Archery coach Surendra Singh encouraged him to pursue archery, and he has been playing since 2008. His next goal is to win a medal in the upcoming World Cup and Asian Championship.
Arjuna Awardee Rajat Chauhan also won gold in the archery compound men’s event
Rajasthan’s DSP and Arjuna Awardee Rajat Chauhan also won gold in the archery compound men’s event and bronze in the compound men’s team event at the National Games. Rajat, who has been learning archery since 2006, has won gold in the 2014 Asian Games and silver in the 2018 Asian Games. He narrowly missed winning a medal in the 2023 Asian Games by two points. Rajat has also won a gold medal in the 2015 National Games held in Kerala and a silver medal in the National Games held in Goa. He expressed pride in winning a medal for the state in the National Games.
