New Delhi: Mohammad Shami could have proved to be a vital asset for the Indian cricket team in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy but the ace paceman wasn’t brought to Australia. Shami, who was out of competitive cricket action for the last 11 months due to an ankle injury, returned on the field for Bengal in domestic cricket in November but still wasn’t considered for the Australia tour.
It was believed that the seasoned pacer would be brought into the squad in the midway during the tour but that also did not happen keeping his fate for a comeback in the national setup hanging in a balance. With the England series and the all-important Champions Trophy being Team India’s next two assignments, it is being stated that the veteran Indian pacer could be included for either or both.
According to multiple media reports, Shami is fit to be considered for the ICC Champions Trophy, if not the England series, considering the big stature of the event. The seasoned Indian pacer is eyeing a comeback in the national team and has sensed that he would be brought into the squad after a gap of almost an year. Shami last played an international match at the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
