New Delhi: The Spanish icon and a Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos will continue his remarkable career in a different continent eight months after his last competitive game. Ramos, who turns 39 in March, will play for Liga MX team Monterrey in Mexico, where he will have an opportunity to compete in the next FIFA Club World Cup. Since May of last year, when he was playing for Sevilla in the Spanish league, the veteran, who won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, has not participated in an official match.

The specifics of the deal were not disclosed by Monterrey, one of Mexico’s most influential clubs in terms of economic power. It seemed like the Mexican giants have been trying to sign the Spaniard who is considered to be one of the greatest defenders of all time, since last summer. Jose Antonio Noriega, who is the Monterrey’s president, admitted that they have had plans for Sergio Ramos and also claimed that he could be a crucial figure in the squad.

Noreiga stated: “The team needs him, he has quality, enormous experience, enormous personality and he is an undisputed leader.”

How are Monterrey doing lately?

The terms “Apertura” and “Clausura” in Liga MX refer to the two distinct competitions that comprise a single Mexican soccer season, each of which has its own champion; in other words, the season is divided into an opening half (Apertura) and a closing half (Clausura). Currently, the Mexcian side Monterrey sit 10th in their Clausara tournament, which is basically just making it into the qualification spot for the next stage, with six points in their five games in Liga MX. During the first half that is the Apertura, Monterrey finished fifth.

In the previous season, they managed to finish as runners-up in the Apertura where CF America were the winners, but the second half of the season saw them finishing fourth. Addition of Sergio Ramos would be massive for Monterrey, as they would now have a proper leader and someone who knows how to get the job done and win trophies.

Three Mexican teams, including Monterrey, often known as Rayados, will compete in the inaugural edition of the expanded Club World Cup, which will take place in the United States next summer. The other two are Pachuca and León. In addition, Ramos won four Champions League trophies with Real Madrid, where he played for 16 seasons, five Spanish League titles, and Euro 2012 with Spain.

Former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos will be playing for the Mexican side Monterrey as he continues his glorious career unfolds yet another chapter.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
