New Delhi: Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain continued her impressive run at the National Games 2025 as she dominated in the final of the women’s 75kg boxing final to win her second consecutive gold medal in the competition. The Assam pugilist was the overwhelming favourite heading into the final bout and lived up to the tag with a clinical display.
Featuring in her first tournament since missing out on a medal at the Paris Olympics last year, Lovlina forged an impressive run at the National Games. She thrashed her younger opponent Pranshu Rathore from Chandigarh 5-0 in the final while dominating her across all three rounds. It was the second successive gold for Lovlina in the women’s 75kg boxing category at the National Games.
Shiva Thapa settles for silver
Six-time Asian champion Shiva Thapa failed to go the distance and had to settle for a silver after facing defeat in the men’s 63.5kg final at the National Games 2025 on Friday. Services boxer Vanshaj defeated the experienced Thapa 4-3 in a close bout in the final to finish on the top of the podium and take the gold medal.
Services boxers shone across boxing events as they won multiple medals at the National Games 2025 on Friday. Services’ Jaismine Lamboria, a Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, defeated Haryana’s Manisha Moun 5-0 in the women’s 60kg final to win gold while Sakshi defeated Himachal Pradesh’s Vinakshi 5-0 to win another gold for Services. Meanwhile, Services’ Mandengbam Singh defeated Chandigarh’s Anshul Punia in the men’s flyweight (51kg) division.
Assam boxers go on a medal-winning spree
Assam boxers, including Lovlina, went on a medal-winning spree at the National Games 2025 as they won two gold and two silver medals. While Lovlina and Thapa clinched gold and silver, respectively, Junior World Champion Ankushita Boro won her third consecutive National Games gold medal in the women’s 66kg category. Assam’s Abhinav Saikia too won a silver medal in the men’s light middleweight (71kg) category.
