New Delhi: Argentine great and possibly the greatest footballer of all time, Lionel Messi must’ve been a proud father after his son’s recent exploits. Messi’s eldest son, Thiago, who is 12 years of age currently, is plying his trade for the U13 side of his father’s club, Inter Miami. Being the son of a legendary footballer like Messi, there was sure to be pressure on Thiago to match his father’s glory and it seems like the kid is on the correct track as of now.
Playing for Inter Miami’s U13s, Thiago put on a dominant display during his side’s U13 MLS cup fixture against Atalanta United, helping his team to a resounding 12-0 victory. Messi junior got himself on the scoresheet 11 times during the game, scoring five in the first half, before adding six more to the scoreline in the second half. He was responsible for 11 of the 12 goals that his side scored during their dominant win.

Donning the number 10 jersey, just like his father, Thiago was hugely influential on the pitch as only one of his teammates managed to find the net. Following his double hattrick in the second half, Diego Luna Jr added Inter Miami’s 12th goal of the game to seal a commanding win for their side. Thiago’s performances for the U13s have Messi’s fans buzzing as they could soon have another Messi to cheer for if the boy continues his form.

Thiago Messi is following in his father’s footsteps in more ways than one. Just 72 hours after his birth back in 2012, he was given the priority to sign with Messi’s first football club, Argentine outfit Newell’s Old Boys. He has also represented the academies of both Barcelona and PSG, the two other clubs Messi played for before joining the Inter Miami’s U13 side. It seems like both father and son love to play against Atalanta United, given their exploits against the side.
While Thiago scored 11 against the club, Lionel Messi, on his first start for Inter Miami scored twice and assisted one against the same opposition. Thiago Messi’s exploits come on the tails of a similar performance from Cristiano Ronaldo Jr in Saudi Arabia. The son of the only person to compete on Messi’s level recently scored 10 goals for Al Nassr’s U15 side in their 10-9 win over Al Ittihad.
The two kids could be set to reignite their father’s rivalry in a few years time if they can continue their form on the senior level. Thiago Messi however, isn’t the only kid of a legendary footballer in the Inter Miami U13 side as Messi’s iconic striking partner at both Barcelona and now Inter Miami, Luis Suarez, also has his son Benjamin Suarez playing for the club’s U13 side, making him teammates with Thiago.
