New Delhi: Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni, defending champions, stormed into the final of the Chennai Open ATP Challenger registering a fighting win over top seeds Ray Ho and Matthew Christopher Romios on Friday. The third seeded Indian pair fought hard cruising to a 7-6, 7-6 win over their opponents from Taipei and Australia.

Both Ramkumar and Saketh started the game on an impressive note, saving a set point in the second set tie-break before they emerged winners on their third match point. The Indian duo, who have been in fabulous form in the event, will lock horns with unseeded Japanese pair of Shintaro Mochizuki and Kaito Uesugi in the final on Saturday. The Japanese duo registered a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over second seeded Indian pair of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth.

For the Indian pair of Ramkumar and Saketh, it should comparatively be an easy finale as they are the defending champions and have a clear edge above the unseeded pair from Japan.

Billy Harris advances in singles draw

Meanwhile in the singles draw, top seed Billy Harris of Britain marched into the last-four of the Chennai Open ATP event with a convincing 6-3, 7-6 victory over Timofey Skatov from Kazakhstan. Though the Kazakh player put up a good fight in the second set, but could not continue the momentum falling in front of Harris. The first set in the contest belonged to the Brit completely as he dominated from word go.

Harris now will face Sweden’s Elias Ymer, who registered an easy 6-2, 6-3 win over Japan’s Rio Noguchi on Saturday in an interesting semifinal clash. In the other semifinal of the event, Czech player Dalibor Svrcina and France’s Kyrian Jacquet will face each other. Svrcina enjoyed an easy entry into the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ukraine’s Oleksandr Ovcharenko while Jacquet beat Shintaro Mochizuki 6-1 4-6, 7-6.
