New Delhi: Mumbai taking on Haryana in the ongoing third Ranji Trophy quarterfinal at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The defending champions were poised to get off to a good start with the quality of batters present in their playing XI. Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube also joined the team after wrapping up the T20I series against England.

Ajinkya Rahane and Co. won the toss and opted to bat first but got off to a poor start as openers Ayush Mhatre and Akash Anand failed to deliver. Siddhesh Lad came to bat at no.3 but only scored 4 runs as Mumbai reduced to 14/3 in 7 overs. Captain Rahane and Suryakumar Yadav were expected to get their team out of the trouble but the duo failed to score runs.

Sumit Kumar removed India’s T20I skipper who only managed to score just 9 runs off five deliveries. Suryakumar has been struggling to score runs for the past few months. He amassed only 28 runs in the five-match T20I series against England. Suryakumar has scored just one half-century in the last 19 innings.

After his dismissal, all-rounder Shivam Dube came to bat and smashed a boundary and maximum but failed to convert his start as Ajit Chahal dismissed him on 28 runs. He hit four boundaries and one maximum during his knock. Ajinkya Rahane batted well and scored 31 runs off 58 deliveries but was removed by Anshul Kamboj. He picked up three wickets while Sumit Kumar took two wickets. Anuj Thakral dismissed Shardul Thakur on 15 runs as the defending champions collapsed in a crucial match.

Cheteshwar Pujara fails to deliver

Senior batter Cheteshwar Pujara also failed to deliver for Saurashtra in the 4th quarterfinal match against Gujarat at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Harvik Desai and Chirag Jani stitched a 45-run partnership for the opening wicket. Arzan Nagwaswalla dismissed Desai on 22 runs and provided Gujarat with their first breakthrough. After his dismissal, Pujara came to bat and scored 26 runs but was removed by Siddharth Desai.
