New Delhi: Paris Olympian Sift Kaur Samra believes the National Games 2025 is a great platform to build on as India aspires to host the Olympics in 2036. Sift made a fantastic start to the year by winning the elusive gold medal in the women’s 50m 3 positions shooting event at the National Games. One of the most talented shooters in the country at present, Sift lauded the organisers for good arrangements at the National Games in Uttarakhand.
The 38th edition of the National Games is currently underway in Uttarakhand where athletes from across the nation are taking part in multiple sporting events. Samra, who missed out on a medal at the Paris Olympics last year, made sure to not repeat her mistakes at the National Games as she went on to secure the top spot on the podium in the women’s 50m 3 positions event.
Speaking about the National Games and its success in Uttarakhand, Samra said the Games almost feel like the Olympics in India where the Indian athletes can prove their mettle and get ready for the major events.
“I think the National Games is just like Olympics for India. It is a really good platform for all the sportspersons to just go and enjoy the games that we play at the international level,” Samra told Sportskeeda.
National Games a trailer for the 2036 Olympics?
India submitted a letter of intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in October last year to express their desire to host the 2036 Olympics in the country. The Indian government is reportedly considering hosting the showpiece event across multiple cities with Ahmedabad as the main venue if their bid is accepted.
Samra believes the National Games in Uttarakhand is a great example and it has set a nice platform to build on for the government in their bid to host the Olympics in 2036. The shooter agreed the National Games 2025 could be a trailer for the 236 Olympics and insisted that hosting an event of the magnitude of the Olympics would be a really good achievement for India.
“We can say that because the arrangements at the National Games were really good. I think they can. It will be a really good achievement for India,” Samra added.
