India in complete control despite Virat’s failure
Kohli’s fans were in a joyous mood on Day 2 but they sat in the stands with glum faces on Day 2. Kohli misfired with the bat on his return to red-ball cricket, dismissed on 6 in the first session with the new ball. Kohli’s weakness outside the off stump was exposed by Hasan Mahmud. The Bangladesh pacer got the better of the Indian superstar batter with an out-swinging delivery. Kohli could have left the ball alone but his eagerness to get off to a positive start led to his downfall.
After the top-order collapse, Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin combined to rescue India from 144/6 in 43 overs by stitching the highest seventh-wicket partnership of 195 runs at Chepauk.
Ashwin completed his sixth century and second successive in Chennai on the opening day to give India a commanding score of 339 for 6 at Stumps. On Day 2, Jadeja fell for 86 while Ashwin was dismissed for 113 as India posted 376.
In reply, Bangladesh were bowled out in less than two sessions for 144 in 47.1 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was the wrecker-in-chief with superb figures of 4/50 while Mohammed Siraj, Akashdeep and Ravindra Jadeja bagged two wickets each as India took a first-innings lead of 277 runs.
