New Delhi: Top seeds Vit Kopriva and Billy Harris continued their brilliant run at the 2025 Delhi Open on Thursday with classical victories in their respective matches. Both Kopriva and Harris produced brilliant effort to seal their spots in the singles quarterfinals of the event.
World number 147 Kopriva secured a comfortable 6-4, 6-1 victory in his singles match over opponent Dalibor Svrcina to reach the last-eight stage of the event. Later in the day, he teamed up with Hynek Barton in the doubles event, producing another 6-4, 6-1 win over Kris Van Wyk and Eric Vanshelboim, booking a spot in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, second seed Harris celebrated his 13-place jump in the ATP rankings recently after he defeated Australian player James McCabe in straight sets confirming his place in the quarterfinals.
Poonacha-Lock enter doubles semis
In the doubles encounter, second seeds Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha and Courtney John Lock advanced to the semifinals of the Delhi Open with determined wins in a sensational three-set clash against Japanese pair of Shintaro Mochizuki and Kaito Uesugi. The tennis players from India and Zimbabwe defeated the Chennai Open 2025 winners 6-3, 2-6, 10-5.
Earlier, in an intense singles battle, sixth seed player Mochizuki rallied past Hynek Barton, registering a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory in the clash after a slow start in the first set where he went down 2-6. Another result of the Delhi Open saw Sweden’s Elias Ymer set up a quarterfinal contest against Harris after beating Egor Agafanov in straight sets. In another doubles contest, Jay Clarke and Johannes Ingildsen ousted Michael Geerts and Kimmer Coppejans, winning the clash 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.
The Delhi Open is organised by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association. The ATP 75 Challenger is played on hard courts and has a prize money of USD 100,000 for the winner. The player who emerges as winner of the singles tournament also rakes in 75 crucial ATP points.
