New Delhi: Defending Champions Inter Milan missed a chance of going ahead of Napoli after defeat to Juventus. Napoli drew 2-2 against Lazio on Saturday and a win would have meant Simone Inzaghi’s Inter could have been in the lead at the end of matchday 25. However, Francisco Conceicao’s strike in the 74th minute denied Inter this as they finished with 54 points, two points behind the top.
The win puts Juventus in fourth place with 46 points, while Atalanta’s goalless draw on Saturday against Cagliari means they are five points behind. Inter have lost just thrice in Serie A this season but it is their second loss in a span of three games. For Juventus boss Thiago Motta, the win would give him breathing space at his job, though at the moment it does look like his side will miss a chance of securing the title for the sixth season in a row.

Francisco Conceicao denies Inter Milan a place at the top
Inter and Juventus were playing a close contest before Randall Kolo Muani’s brilliant footwork against the visitor’s defenders in the box saw him lay an easy ball for Conceicao to strike the winner home. Kolo Muani’ defensive work had helped Juve, winning seven duels keep a clean sheet before his assist to his 22-year-old teammate. Earlier Juventus goalkeeper Michele di Gregorio had denied Marcus Thuram’s first-time shot from breaking the deadlock. Di Gregorio had even managed to save Mehdi Taremi’s bicycle kick.
Even Lautaro Martinez had missed a couple of close calls in front of the goal, while Denzel Dumfries hit the post towards the end of the first half. Before the end of the first half, even Nico Gonzalez had come close to breaking the deadlock while Conceicao looked close to hitting the rebound but was both times saved by Yann Sommer and the attack continued in the second half from both sides.
Dumfries produced a brilliant goalline clearance from Teun Koopmeiners’s shot later to keep his side in the hunt for a single point from the game but Inter couldn’t find the back of the net. Inter were putting more pressure towards the closing stages of the game but Juventus kept their nerves to take their third consecutive win in the competition, having lost just once this season in Serie A.
Inter Milan missed out on a chance to go to the top of the Serie A table after Francisco Conceicao’s strike in the 74th minute gives Juventus a 1-0 over defending champions. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
