New Delhi: After Gurjant Singh scored early, Indian men’s hockey team held on to their nerves and displayed tremendous skills to beat world champions Germany 1-0 in a FIH League match on Wednesday. This comes after Germany thrashed India 4-1 in the first leg of the match a day earlier on Tuesday.

Gurjant made the early brace for the Indians with a fantastic field goal in the fourth minute of play which was followed by a goalless remaining portion of the match. India looked so solid in their defence not allowing the champions Germany to intrude and score a goal. Though Germany made some efforts on the field securing some chances to score but the Men in Blue showed excellence at the best level to take a revenge in less than 24 hours after suffering a defeat.

India’s improvement in every aspect

Team India showcased improvement in every aspect of the game as they started off on the front foot and carried their momentum all through the match. The Indian team looked more purposeful and eager to to make a mark for revenge. The hosts dominated for most part of the game, though Germany created some chances off and one.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Germans where they tried their best to level the game but failed. The world champions attacked in numbers trying to draw parity by scoring a goal but the defense from the Indians was superb which thwarted their efforts.

Germany secured five of their total seven penalty corner in the final quarter but the Indian defence stood like a wall. Meanwhile, India had just two penalty corner opportunities but they wasted both. This game has set a perfect tone for the Harmanpreet Singh-led India team to perform well in their upcoming encounters in the ongoing Pro League.
