New Delhi: UFC star Shavkat Rakhmonov explained why he refused Welterweight title fight against Belal Muhammad. He was awarded the title fight after a brilliant run in the UFC, where he maintained a 100% finish rate.
Unfortunately for him, Muhammad withdrew from the fight after suffering a broken toe and bone infection. Rakhmonov remained on the card after defeating Ian Machado Garry. After the victory, he faced off with Muhammad in the cage, suggesting their title fight would be rebooked, but things have once again taken an unexpected turn.
Shavkat reveals why he’s not fighting Muhammad at UFC 315
UFC boss Dana White announced that Belal Muhammad will face Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 on May 10. The news came as a huge shock for many fans as they thought that Rakhmonov would be given a title chance after missing out in December. Jack Della Maddalena was scheduled to face Leon Edwards at UFC London, but after Della Maddalena was promoted to the title fight, Edwards will now face Sean Brady in the UFC London main event on March 22.
After White’s big announcement, Rakhmonov shared his reaction on X and revealed that he was offered the title fight at UFC 315, but injury ruled him out this time. He posted a tweet on X and wrote, “Big thanks to the UFC for offering me the shot at the belt first. Unfortunately, due to injury, I won’t be ready for May. I’ll be facing the winner later this year!
After his victory against Machado Garry at UFC 310, commentator Daniel Cormier revealed that he fought with a torn MCL. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old has to wait for his title fight, but he will be keeping a close on the UFC 315 main event. Della Maddalena has called Rakhmonov to fight many times and he will be hoping that neither of the fighters picks up serious injury on May 10, which could cause more delay for his title shot.
