New Delhi: Team India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and actor-choreographer Dhanashree Verma have mutually agreed to a divorce, the cricketer’s lawyer Nitin K Gupta has confirmed.
Gupta has disclosed that their divorce petition has been filed and was presented in court at Bandra, Mumbai after mutual consent from both parties.
“Mr Chahal has reached a settlement for a divorce by mutual consent with Mrs Verma. A petition for divorce by mutual consent has been filed before the Hon’ble Family Court, Bandra. The matter is now sub-judice,” Gupta said in a statement to Hindustan Times.
“Further steps are being taken as per law in this regard. Mr Chahal and his family respectfully choose not to comment on the details circulating in media and request all to refrain from any kind of speculation.”
Since the matter is under judicial review, it os illegal to discuss about it publicly, Gupta added even as Chahal and his family have refrained from commenting on it tand urged everyone to refrain from fanning speculation.
‘Outraged’
Earlier, Dhanashree’s family refuted rumours of demanding Rs 60 crore alimony, claiming no such amount had ever been requested, demanded, or offered.
“We are extremely outraged by the unfounded rumors regarding the alimony figure. Let it be clear that no such amount has been sought, demanded, or even proposed. These rumors are completely false.
“Reckless reporting like this only causes unnecessary harm and confusion. We urge the media to be more responsible, verify their information, and respect everyone’s privacy,” her family said in a statement.
They got married on December 11, 2020 and rumours of a split gained momentum in 2023 when Dhanashree dropped ‘Chahal’ from her name on Instagram, a day after the cricketer wrote “new life loading on his Instagram account.
Chahal then dismissed the divorce rumours and requested fans not to spread rumours or engage in speculation.
They met on the sets of dance show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 11 and fell in love before deciding to tie the knot.
