How does excess oil affect health?
When it comes to oil, it is about choosing the right kind of fat. While some types of fat are good for the heart, others can do a great deal of harm. Oil in all forms is loaded with calories, approximately 120 calories per tablespoon. But in large quantities, it can spike cholesterol levels, and also increase the risk of heart disease in the long run. Experts say while the human body requires some level of fats to function normally, eating more than the required quantity can lead to obesity as it is stored in the body differently. Some forms of oil, when heated too much, can cause inflammation which can over time lead to obesity and raise the risk of heart disease and metabolic syndrome as well.
Healthiest cooking techniques to try
When it comes to oil intake, it largely depends upon the cooking technique relied upon. Some of the best cooking techniques are:
- Baking
- Steaming
- Pressure-cooking
- Grilling
Deep-frying is the worst technique as this one results in excessive oil use which can be incredibly detrimental. Another excellent way of limiting cooking oil is by using oil sprays instead of pouring it straight from the bottle.
