New Delhi: On a day when senior women hockey team member Savita Punia completed the milestone of reaching 300 international matches, the Indian women’s team went down to reigning Olympic champions Netherlands 2-4 in the latest round of the FIH Pro League fixture played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
The hosts couldn’t bank upon the number of opportunities presented for goal-scoring. The Women in Blue were awarded 13 penalty corners in stark contrast to the three for their opponents in Orange. Defender Udita Duhan found the back of the net twice (in 18th and 42nd minutes) in what was the minimal efforts in terms of penalty corner conversion (both goals were scored from penalty corners).
Felice Albers scored brace to lead the charts for the Dutch woman while she was backed with goals from Emma Reijnen and Fay van der Elst in the first and third quarters, respectively.
The Indian men’s hockey team went down to England 2-3 in their recent FIH Pro League match played in Bhubaneswar on Monday. Jacob Payton opened the scoring sheet across the courts to give England an early advantage right before the end of the first quarter. Sam Ward powered the team with a brace in the lead. India’s goals were scored by Abhishek and Sukhjeet Singh in the second and third quarters, respectively.

Both India men and women’s teams will playing the reverse leg against the Netherlands and England, respectively, on Tuesday. This will also be the last day of the FIH Pro League’s India leg as the competition will return back in June.
The Indian women’s hockey team lost to the Netherlands 2-4 in the FIH Pro League, despite Savita Punia reaching 300 international matches. The Indian men’s team also lost to England 2-3. Both teams will play their respective opponents again on Tuesday in the final leg of the FIH Pro League in India.
