New Delhi: India’s reigning world champion D Gukesh has attained his career-best ranking in the latest FIDE classical ratings released on Saturday. Gukesh, who became the youngest world champion at 18 after beating China’s Ding Liren in December, climbed to a career-best number three position.
Meanwhile, his compatriot R Praggnanandhaa has re-entered the top 10 of the FIDE classical ratings. The chess player has gained 10 points and has a rating of 2787 in his kitty. Gukesh, who lost the Tata Steel Masters to Praggnanandhaa on tiebreak, is behind the second-placed Hikaru Nakamura (2802) while Norway’s Magnus Carlsen (2833) continues to dominate at the top of the rankings.
Gukesh overtakes Arjun Erigiasi
Indian Grandmaster Gukesh has pipped compatriot Arjun Erigiasi and USA’s Fabiano Caruana in the rankings. Erigiasi, who held the record of being the highest-ranked Indian for a long time, has moved down to the fifth position with a rating of 2777. Erigiasi
Praggnanandhaa, who won in the Tata Steel tournament recently and is currently competing in the Prague Masters, is back in the top 10 for the first time since July. He has moved up to the eighth spot after gaining 17 pointing and rating of 2758. Meanwhile, Koneru Humpy happens to be the only Indian in the top 10 of women’s list. Humpy has occupied the sixth place with a rating points of 2528 while R Vaishali (2484) and Harika Dronavalli (2483) are on 14th and 16th place respectively. The FIDE rating are different from the live Elo ratings.
