New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday lauded the Indian contingent for showcasing phenomenal sporting excellence at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025 by bringing home seven medals. The Indian contingent displayed remarkable performance to make the country proud in the event that was held in Bihar. PM Modi, who is an ardent sports enthusiast, is always at the forefront during any national or international event.

Sepak Takraw is a fantastic and exciting sport that combines elements of volleyball, soccer and martial arts to entertain the crowd to to the fullest. PM Modi took to social media handle X to laud the contingent who shined for the country at the stage.

‘Congratulations to our contingent for displaying phenomenal sporting excellence at the Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025!’Modi said in a post on X. ‘The contingent brings home 7 medals. The Men’s Regu team created history by bringing home India’s first Gold,’ he said.

This remarkable performance indicates a bright future for India in the global Sepak Takraw arena, asserted PM Modi. Sepak Takraw is a traditional sport that originated in Southeast Asia and has gained popularity in other parts of the world as well. Sepak takraw, also known as buka ball, kick volleyball or foot volleyball, is a team sport which is being played in a lot of countries now. It is played with a ball made of plastic between two teams of two to four players on a court which is similar to a badminton court.

Meanwhile, the 2025 edition of the World Cup was held at Patliputra Indoor Stadium in Bihar’s Patna.
