New Delhi: Tony Ferguson, who was one of the top fighters in the lightweight division at one point in time and has been on an incredible run of nine years in the UFC with a 12-fight win streak.
After his 12-fight win streak, El Cucuy’s UFC career shot down as he recorded the longest all-time losing streak. Ferguson lost eight fights in a row in the UFC in different weight divisions.
Ferguson fought against Michael Chiesa in the welterweight division on UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi. He lost the bout in the first round via rear naked choke by Chiesa. El Cucuy hasn’t won a single fight since 2020.
After his last defeat against Chiesa, UFC President Dana White also suggested Ferguson announce his retirement, and in the post-match presentation of his last fight, he put his one glove down, and everyone thought he would announce his retirement but he didn’t announce his retirement.
The fight that broke Ferguson’s heart and his downfall started against Justin Gaethje in 2020. Tony was enjoying his 12-fight win streak and was Interim lightweight champion.
Gaethje gave a really tough time to Ferguson and knocked him out in the fifth round. Tony’s nose was broken and was blooding heavily during the fight. After the fight against Gaethje, Tony never moves to the winning column.
Tony Ferguson joins GFL after exit from UFC
After Tony Ferguson departed from the UFC, GFL announced the signing of the legendary fighter. No one thinks that after UFC any other promotion will sign the 40-year-old fighter who is on an eight-fight losing streak but GFL shut down all the rumors and signed Tony quickly.
Ferguson also announced that he will be taking his rematch against Kevin Lee in the GFL. Both fighters met in the octagon in 2017 for the Interim lightweight title and El Cucuy finished Lee in the third round via triangle choke.
