How long could Kylian Mbappé be suspended after Alavés red card?

New Delhi: Before Kylian Mbappe was sent off for a terrible tackle on Antonio Blanco, a former Madrid academy product, Eduardo Camavinga scored his first league goal since 2021–2022, and Raul Asencio’s attempt was disallowed by VAR in the first half of the team’s thrilling 1-0 victory over Deportivo Alaves.

At full power, the Frenchman clashed with Blanco, raking his studs violently down the midfielder’s shin after allegedly being agitated by a slew of fouls that were not in his favour during the first 38 minutes in Vitoria. Referee Cesar Soto Grado unexpectedly only gave Mbappe a yellow card on first view, but he unsurprisingly changed it to a red card after seeing the pitchside monitor through VAR.

The 26-year-old Madrid attacker will now miss some time due to his suspension, but luckily, his foolish dismissal against Alaves, who were eventually reduced to ten men themselves, did not prove expensive. Following Sunday’s horrible challenge, Mbappe can be banned for the following amount of time.

How long will he be serving the suspension?

Although Mbappe’s repulsive foul on Sunday was loudly condemned, the penalty for such an offence might be incredibly light. The attacker will only be suspended for one game because, according to Spanish publication COPE, he was seen to be going for the ball when he clashed with Blanco. Red card challenges in La Liga that are judged to have used “excessive force”—the term used to describe Mbappe’s lunge in the referee’s post-match report—only result in a one to three game punishment for the offender.

But only La Liga is subject to a three-game or less ban. Ahead of Wednesday’s second leg of the quarterfinal, Arsenal fans are disappointed that the suspension does not extend to the Copa del Rey or Champions League. However, Mbappe may yet be suspended for more than three games. The suspension may range from four to twelve games if it is determined that his tackle was considered “violent conduct” after the fact. Mbappe would miss the forthcoming final matchup with Barcelona due to a four-game or longer suspension in the Copa del Rey.

Fixture that Mbappe will be missing during this time

If the COPE article cited above is accurate, Mbappe will only miss this Sunday’s La Liga match against Athletic Club due to a one-game suspension. The striker’s absence might hurt Madrid against the fourth-place team in the division, as they are in desperate need of points as they close the gap on table-toppers Barcelona. Mbappe will be free to participate in this Wednesday’s Champions League match against Arsenal, regardless of how long his suspension is.

Should Madrid advance to the semi-finals, he would also be eligible to play in later European games. He would miss Madrid’s next three league games against Athletic Club (H), Getafe (A), and Celta Vigo (H) if he were suspended for three games. However, he would be ineligible to play in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26 if he were suspended for four games.

Kylian Mbappé could face a multi-match suspension after receiving a straight red card for a reckless challenge during Real Madrid’s clash with Alavés.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
