New Delhi: Mumbai Indians are all set to take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 20 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday, April 07. All eyes are on India’s pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah, who has been included in the playing XI for his first appearance in IPL 2025. Bumrah rejoined the Mumbai Indians camp on Sunday after getting clearance from the BCCI medical team.
Bumrah, who sustained an injury during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in January, was out of international cricket for nearly three months and also missed the Champions Trophy. The right-arm pacer had been undergoing rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru following the back injury he picked up during the 5th Test against Australia in Sydney this January.
MI’s lineup boost: Bumrah and Rohit’s return
Though Bumrah was initially expected to return before the Champions Trophy, he was eventually ruled out. He also missed the first four matches for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.
At the toss, MI skipper Hardik Pandya, who opted to bowl first, confirmed Bumrah’s return, announcing that the pacer is part of today’s playing XI. Alongside him, senior player Rohit Sharma is also making his comeback after sitting out the previous match against Lucknow Super Giants due to a knee injury.
Mumbai Indians, who have had a shaky start to the tournament and are currently at the 8th position on the points table with just one win in four games, will be hoping that Bumrah’s return boosts team morale and sparks a memorable turnaround to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Meanwhile, RCB, who began the tournament on a positive note, look solid this season. They secured impressive away wins in their first two matches against Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens and Chepauk, respectively. Although they suffered a defeat in their most recent home fixture against Gujarat Titans, the setback is unlikely to affect their confidence. With 4 points to their name, RCB currently sits comfortably at the 3rd spot on the points table.
IPL 2025: Jasprit Bumrah makes his highly anticipated IPL 2025 debut for Mumbai Indians in their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. His return, alongside Rohit Sharma’s comeback, is a major boost for a struggling MI team. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
