New Delhi: The Punjab Kings (PBKS) are currently locking horns with the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. Punjab’s stand-in captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first on their home ground.
In the tournament so far, Punjab have batted first in 3 out of 5 matches, and each time, they’ve crossed the 210-run mark. However, things didn’t go as planned this time against a formidable KKR bowling attack. The top order of the Kings was disrupted early, losing four wickets within the Powerplay.
Right-arm pacer Harshit Rana took 3 wickets in the powerplay itself, removing Priyansh Arya, Shreyas Iyer, and Prabhsimran Singh in quick succession. Making his debut tonight, Josh Inglis was expected to stabilise the innings for Punjab Kings. But his innings was cut short by KKR’s spin wizard Varun Chakravarthy.
Varun flighted a googly, full and tempting, drawing Inglis into a big slog over mid-wicket. Inglis completely misread the delivery, missing it entirely as the ball went on to shatter his stumps—a classic Varun dismissal.
KKR bundle out Punjab Kings for 111 runs
After their exceptional bowling performance against Chennai Super Kings in their last game, KKR continued their impressive run with the ball against Punjab Kings. KKR managed to bundle out hosts Punjab Kings for a paltry 111 runs in just 15.1 overs in the crucial encounter in Mullanpur. Pacer Harshit Rana shone in the Powerplay with a three-wicket haul, while the spin duo of Chakarvarthy and Narine ran through PBKS’ middle order.
Chakaravarthy picked up the important wickets of Inglis and Glenn Maxwell to finish with excellent figures of 2/21, while Narine dismissed Marco Jansen and Suryansh Shegde to finish with figures of 2/14 off his 3 overs. KKR will be hoping to chase down the target comfortably to bag their fourth win in the ongoing IPL 2025.
