New Delhi: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has reportedly made it mandatory for all India players from Mumbai to take part in the upcoming T20 Mumbai League. India’s current Test and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma has been exempted from the diktat as he will be the ‘Face of the T20 league’. Rohit was present alongside MCA President Ajinkya Naik at the launch of the third edition of the league on Friday.

As per a report in the Indian Express, all Mumbai players, who currently play for India, have been asked to play in the T20 league if they are not selected for India’s upcoming tour of England. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur, among others, can be seen in action in the T20 Mumbai League.

The Team India stars have also expressed their willingness to feature in the state T20 league. The T20 Mumbai League is scheduled to get underway on May 26, a day after the IPL 2025 final on May 25. The final of the T20 tournament will be played on June 05. The rule will not apply to the Mumbai players who are selected in India’s Test squad for the England Test series which will be played in June this year.

“All Mumbai’s Indian players have been informed that they have to play the T20 Mumbai League which will begin after the IPL. It’s mandatory, unless those, who have India commitment or injury issues they can skip,” a MCA official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

A number of top Mumbai players are currently in action for their respective teams in IPL 2025. While Rohit is playing for the Mumbai Indians, Iyer and Rahane are leading Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively. Shivam Dube is part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad while Shardul Thakur is playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
