New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant’s horror run continued in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as he was dismissed on a duck in his side’s clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday, April 22. Pant, who has been struggling with the bat this season, shockingly demoted himself to number 7 against his former team DC and came out to bat only in the final over of LSG’s innings.
Asked to bat first in the game, LSG got off to a strong start at their home ground – the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, courtesy of a brilliant 87-run stand from openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh. Both Marsh and Markram took the aggressive route in the Powerplay to get LSG off to a flyer.
Markram was dismissed on 52 off 33 balls, bringing an end to the opening stand between him and Marsh. Mitchell Starc then got rid of in-form Nicholas Pooran cheaply on 9 to reduce LSG to 99/2. However, much to the surprise of many, Abdul Samad came out to bat at four as Pant decided to demote himself.
Pant eventually came out to bat at no.7 in the 20th over after Ayush Badoni was dismissed following his quickfire 36 off 21 balls. Pant faced only two balls and was cleaned up by Mukesh Kumar on the final delivery of his side’s innings to return to the hut without managing to open his account in the game. This was Pant’s second duck of the season as he was dismissed without scoring a run in his side’s opener against DC earlier this season.
Pant has so far managed only 106 runs for Lucknow Super Giants in nine matches this season at an abysmal average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 96.36. He notched up his highest score of 63 runs in LSG’s clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at home last week. Pant has so far managed only a solitary fifty in the season so far.
