New Delhi: Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav played a starring role as Mumbai Indians (MI) hammered Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 9 wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, April 20. MI rode on unbeaten half-centuries from Rohit and Suryakumar to comfortably chase down the target of 177 runs at home and bag their third win in a row in IPL 2025.
Rohit slammed an unbeaten 76 off 45 balls while Suryakumar smashed 68 not out off just 30 deliveries as Mumbai Indians made light work of the 177-run target to hand CSK their sixth defeat of the season. The duo shared an unbeaten stand of 114 runs for the second wicket to wrap up the chase with 26 balls to spare, helping Mumbai Indians secure a commanding victory.
Rohit, who hadn’t fired for Mumbai Indians at the start of the season, finally came good against their arch-rivals on Sunday as he toyed with the CSK pacers in the Powerplay. Rohit looked in fine form as he unleashed some impressive strokes in the Powerplay to get his team off to a flying start. The Hitman shared a 63-run opening stand with Ryan Rickelton, who was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja in the 7th over after managing only 24 off 19 balls.
However, Rohit continued his exploits after the left-hander’s dismissal and went on to notch up his first fifty in IPL 2025 off 33 balls. He combined with Suryakumar to continue the momentum as the duo produced a clinical display with a match-winning stand of 114 runs to take MI home comfortably. Rohit’s 76 off 45 was laced with six sixes and 4 fours, while Suryakumar’s 30-ball 68 was studded with 5 sixes and six fours.

Rohit Sharma bags 20th Player of the Match award in IPL
It was Rohit’s 9th fifty-plus score against CSK in the IPL as he joined the likes of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan on the list of players with the most fifty-plus scores against the Men in Yellow in the tournament’s history. Rohit, who came on as an Impact Sub, bagged the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 76 off 45 balls, 20th in his IPL career.
The 114-run stand between the Hitman and Suryakumar was the fourth-highest partnership for Mumbai Indians against CSK and only the 4th 100-plus stand by MI batters against their arch-rivals. Rohit, who roared back to form at the Wankhede Stadium, will be hoping to continue his prolific run for MI in the remainder of the season.
