Stock Market this week: How will Sensex and Nifty trade? Experts’ comments

New Delhi: A day ahead of stock market opening, analysts stated that the rising tensions between India and Pakistan over Pahalgam terror attack, Q4 earnings of domestic companies and macro data will be the key factors which will decide the movement of the indices like BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty.

The market analysts were also of the view that the trading activity of foreign investors and global trends would also weigh in on the movement in the market. Equity markets will remain closed on May 1 (Thursday) for ‘Maharashtra Day’.

Due to increased geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, stock markets investors resorted to profit-taking in the last two sessions.

“The upcoming holiday-shortened week also marks the beginning of a new month, making monthly auto sales data a key area of focus for market participants. On the macroeconomic front, investors will closely track the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data and the HSBC manufacturing PMI data.

“Meanwhile, geopolitical developments between India and Pakistan will remain on the radar. On the corporate earnings front, several prominent companies—including BPCL, IOC, Bajaj Finance, TVS Motor, and UltraTech Cement—are set to release their quarterly results. Globally, updates related to tariffs and trade will also be watched closely,” Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd, said.

VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited, pinned hoped on Foreign Institutional Investors to pump in more money in the domestic market.

“There is a distinct trend reversal in FII strategy in India. During the last eight days FIIs (Foreign Institutional Investors) were sustained buyers in the Indian market,” Vijayakumar said, adding that the interesting point was that FIIs continued with buying despite simmering tensions between India and Pakistan.
