Kerala Cricket Association suspends Sreesanth for three years over remarks on Sanju Samson row

The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has banned former India pacer S Sreesanth for three years for his remarks against the cricket board following Sanju Samson’s exclusion from the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

KCA is also set to file a defamation suit against Sanju’s father, Samson Viswanath, for making false allegations. At the beginning of the year, Samson’s father slammed the KCA and alleged that some officials are deliberately trying to ruin his son’s cricketing career.

Sreesanth sparked a massive row in February after criticising KCA for snubbing Sanju Samson from the white-ball season and the choice of players by the state cricket board.

The former India international was also issued a show-cause notice by the KCA for his comments, which they termed false and defamatory.

“Following the controversial remarks, the KCA had issued show-cause notices to Sreesanth and the franchisee teams Kollam Aries, Alleppey Team Lead content creator Sai Krishnan, and Alleppey Ripples. As the franchisee teams gave satisfactory replies to the notice, the meeting decided not to proceed with further action against them. However, the KCA instructed the team management to be vigilant when including members in the team management,” a statement from KCA read.

The infamous row between Sreesanth and KCA

Sreesanth had slammed the KCA for not selecting Samson for the VHT squad and indicated that the snub was reportedly the reason behind his omission from India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad for not playing the Vijay Hazare tournament.

KCA termed Sreesanth’s comments as “false and defamatory” and said that the show cause notice was not for supporting Samson, but for “making false and defamatory statements” – a violation of his contractual terms as the co-owner of the Kollam Sailors franchise.

Responding to the former cricketer’s comments, KCA mentioned the infamous 2013 spot-fixing case against Sreesanth and reminded the player of the time when the board officials visited him in jail and supported him during the tough times.
