New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) got knocked out of the race for the playoffs in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Monday, May 05, after their match against Delhi Capitals (DC) got washed out due to relentless rain and a wet outfield. The match had to be called off as the second innings failed to resume due to rain after DC posted 133/7, batting first at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.
Both teams were awarded a point each after the game was called off, confirming SRH’s exit from the race for the top four. It was a must-win game for the Pat Cummins-led side, who have managed only three wins in 12 matches this season and are at the 8th spot on the IPL 2025 points table with just 7 points. SRH have become the third team to bow out of the playoffs race after Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
The rain turned out to be a sort of blessing in disguise for Delhi Capitals, who might have struggled to defend the low-key total of 133 runs after a disastrous batting performance against Hyderabad. The likes of KL Rahul, Karun Nair and Faf du Plessis, among others, failed to deliver as SRH restricted DC to below-par total after a brilliant spell from Pat Cummins in the Powerplay.

Pat Cummins ran riot with the new ball, reducing Delhi Capitals to tatters with three wickets in three overs in the Powerplay. He removed Karun Nair on a Golden Duck on the very first ball of the match before dismissing Faf du Plessis and Abhishek Porel in successive overs to leave DC in a huge pot of bother at 15/3 in the fifth over.
