New Delhi: Madhura Dhamangaonkar scripted history on Saturday with a sensational 139-138 victory over USA’s Carson Krahe, winning her maiden individual World Cup gold medal at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai. The Indian archer, who is unranked in the World Archery rankings for not competing at the international level for as long as three years, trailed 81-85 after a costly seven in the third end.
During the intense game, the 24-year-old arched showcased sensational composure under pressure and dropped just a single point in a flawless fourth end to set the score level at 110-all. In the final and deciding set, she held her nerves with two perfect 10s – both X scores of arrows closer to the centre – and a 9 to edge past Krahe by one-point in a thrilling finish.
