New Delhi: Ahead of the start of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, Team India star Virat Kohli picked his best-ever Test knock on Australian soil. The senior batter didn’t have to think twice as he picked his century in the Perth Test against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2018-19. Kohli had played a sublime knock of 123 runs on a difficult track in Perth to help India post 283 runs in their first innings, in reply to Australia’s first-innings total of 326 runs. His 123 was laced with 13 fours and a six.
“My best Test innings in Australia was at Perth in the 2018-19 tour, I think that was the toughest pitch I have played in Test cricket,” Kohli said in a video shared by the BCCI on their social media handles.
However, Kohli’s brilliant ton ended up going in vain as Australia managed to win the Test match by 146 runs to level the four-match series 1-1. Nonetheless, India bounced back to win the 3rd Test in Melbourne by 137 runs before drawing the final Test in Sydney to clinch the series 2-1 and register their maiden Test series victory in Australia.
Can Virat Kohli spark a turnaround in Australia?
Kohli has not been in the best of form in Test cricket so far this year and will be hoping to spark a turnaround in Australia which has been one of his favourite hunting grounds in Tests. The former India skipper has averaged an abysmal 22.72 in six Tests so far this year and could only manage 93 runs in the recently concluded three-match Test series against New Zealand.
However, he will be eyeing a comeback in Australia where he has a brilliant record averaging a stellar 54.08 with six centuries to his name in 13 Test matches.
