New Delhi: The 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy has set a global viewership record, creating a new benchmark in the cricketing world. The new record has eclipsed its 2017 predecessor revealing the whopping number of viewers that watched the marquee event on television. Notably, 2025 saw the return of Champions Trophy after the tournament was scrapped.

The showpiece event, which was jointly hosted by Pakistan and United Arab Emirates (UAE) witnessed a whopping 368 billion minutes of the global viewing time, as revealed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This is a staggering 19 per cent increase from the last edition which was held in England and Wales 8 years back.

Record global viewing minutes per over

The showpiece ICC event also drew 308 million global viewing minutes per over which becomes the most-ever for an ICC event. The blockbuster finale, which was held in Dubai between India and New Zealand, became the most watched Champions Trophy match ever with 65.3 billion live viewing minutes globally, breaking the record set during the 2017 final by 52.1 per cent. India clinched the final winning the coveted trophy in white jackets on March 9.

ICC chairman Jay Shah felt delighted on this occasion and said that: ‘We are delighted to share that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has achieved record-breaking global viewership, making it the most-watched edition of the tournament to date. These remarkable numbers reflect the growing global appeal of the game and the strength of our partnerships. We are especially grateful for the continued innovation and investment by the JioStar network in India, which delivered live coverage across 29 unique broadcast feeds in nine languages, an effort that played a significant role in reaching new audiences and deepening fan engagement’.

India, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, remained unbeaten throughout the event, beating Australia in the semifinals and the Black Caps in the summit clash. The Men in Blue claimed their third Champions Trophy title after winning it in 2013 and becoming the joint-winners with Sri Lanka in 2002. The 2025 victory marked India’s seventh ICC title, just behind Australia, who have 10.
