New Delhi: The upcoming Test series between England and India can now be streamed on JioHotstar as well. According to a Cricbuzz report, the recent merger between Jio and Star has bagged the digital rights of the marquee five-Test series, which starts on June 20 in Headingley. Jio-Star has completed a digital deal with Sony Entertainment Network, or Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited, paving the way for the series on the new platform.
The report added that the two networks were negotiating over it for the past month, and it is believed that they have reached an agreement in the last 24 hours. Sony has reportedly agreed to sub-license the digital streaming rights of the matches but has retained the television (TV) rights of the series, which will thus be available only on the Sony Sports network.
An official announcement for the development is expected later in the day, as stated in the report. India will travel to four more venues for the series – Birmingham (from July 2) for the second Test, Lord’s (from July 10) for the third, Manchester (July 23) for the fourth, and finally at the Oval (from July 31) for the last Test.
Agreement to last till next year
The aforementioned agreement between Sony and Jio Star will extend to the white-ball series scheduled next year as well. India will be playing three ODIs and five T20 internationals in England during the 2026 summer, and JioHotstar will broadcast those eight games as well.
Last year, Sony had secured the rights for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in an eight-year deal that would last till 2031, giving the network exclusive broadcast rights to all England cricket properties in India. It is also understood that in the current arrangement between the three media giants, Sony, Star, and Jio, the ECB has played a key role in facilitating the agreement.
JioHotstar has reportedly bagged the digital streaming rights of the upcoming Test series between England and India. While Sony has retained the TV rights, they have sub-licensed the streaming part of the deal. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
