‘Bloody hell, that’s a turnaround’: Virat Kohli praises Rajat Patidar’s remarkable IPL journey

New Delhi: Star batter Virat Kohli conveyed a special message to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar after he led the franchise to their maiden IPL title victory. RCB defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3.

In a heartwarming post-match dressing-room scene, Kohli highlighted Patidar’s incredible journey with RCB and also gifted him with a bat as a token of appreciation. “What a turnaround. From injury replacement to IPL-winning captain. Bloody hell. That’s a turnaround!” Kohli said in a viral dressing-room clip posted by RCB after their six-run win against Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad.

He then took out one of his bats and gifted it to the RCB captain, who expressed his gratitude by kissing it. Patidar joined the Bengaluru-based franchise in 2021 but was released after a poor season. However, an injury to Luvnith Sisodia created a big opportunity for Patidar, who initially went unsold at the IPL auction. He made his mark by scoring a sensational hundred in the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in 2022.

That century significantly elevated his position in the franchise, and Patidar was retained for IPL 2023. But he was ruled out of the season due to an Achilles injury. He made a comeback in IPL 2024 and scored 395 runs in 14 innings, and replaced Faf du Plessis as skipper for the IPL 2025 season.

‘I think it is really special for me and special for Virat Kohli’: Rajat Patidar

After winning the IPL 2025, RCB captain Patidar said that it is special for him and Virat Kohli. He also said that it’s a great opportunity for him to captain the team under Kohli’s guidance, and it was a great learning experience for him.
