New Delhi: England pacer Jofra Archer has entered the Big Bash League (BBL) draft for the 2025 season and will be available for the entire tournament. Archer has decided to play the whole season, keeping the T20 World Cup 2026 in mind. The tearaway quick, who recently made his injury comeback, is still recovering from some niggles and is yet to attain full fitness.

The BBL draft is set to take place on June 19, and Archer will be one of the biggest names available. The England pacer last featured in the Australian T20 league when he played for Hobart Hurricanes in the 2018 season. He played two seasons for the Hurricanes in 2017 and 2018, picking up 34 wickets for his side at an average of 23.26.

Archer played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and was available for the team for the entire season. He blew hot and cold throughout the season as the England pacer picked up 11 wickets in 12 matches at an economy of 9.47. He bowled some impressive spells with the new ball, but was far from consistent for RR as they failed to reach the playoffs.

Currently recovering from a thumb injury, Archer is in England but is not part of the hosts’ squad for the first Test of the upcoming five-match Test series against India, which gets underway on June 20. However, there is optimism that the pacer will recover in time to feature in the series. His performances against India can help Archer secure a spot in England’s squad for the Ashes later this year.

But the Ashes 2025-26 is set to collide with the Big Bash League, much like it did last time around. The BBL season will be played in December and January in Australia, while the Ashes 2025-26 is set to be played from November 21 to January 8.

BBL could be key to Archer’s T20 World Cup selection

The Big Bash League will be an important tournament for Archer as it might hold the key to his selection in England’s squad for the T20 World Cup. The tournament will give Archer the final chance to impress England’s selectors ahead of the mega event, which will be played in February-March in India and Sri Lanka next year. Archer, who has been far from his lethal best in recent times, will be hoping to make the most of the opportunity to attain his peak form ahead of the T20 World Cup.
