New Delhi: Manchester United travel to Anfield for the headline clash this weekend as they take on league leaders Liverpool in an important clash for the Red Devils. Since winning the Manchester Derby against Pep Guardiola’s side, United have been on a losing streak and have lost all four of their games in all competitions. Speaking ahead of their trip to Anfield, head coach Ruben Amorim confirmed that star attacker Marcus Rashford won’t be available for the Liverpool clash.
The 27-year-old is down with an unspecified illness and won’t be travelling to Liverpool as confirmed by the United head coach. Rashford seems to have fallen out of favour with the Portuguese and hasn’t made an appearance for the club in their last four games. He started and scored in the first two games under Amorim but was given only 31 minutes of time on the field in the defeats to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, which has till now been the last game he has played this season.

Following the defeat to Forest, Rashford wasn’t a part of the matchday squad for the derby win or even for the defeat to Wolves and Bournemouth. He returned to the squad ahead of the Newcastle game but was an unused substitute as United fell to a 2-0 defeat away from home. Considering he hadn’t played in the last five games for the club in all competitions, it was expected that he wouldn’t have played a part in the Liverpool game as well before Amorim announced that he had been ruled out. The 39-year-old said, “At the moment he is ill,” said Amorim. “He is not training and this week he is out.”

With new deals being offered to both Amad Diallo and Harry Maguire, two players that have been offered a new lease of life under Amorim, it seems that Rashford is out the exit door from his boyhood club. When asked about Rashford’s position at the club, Amorim refused to give a concrete answer for the same stating, “”It’s the same situation. We will see in the future, but this is like a normal player and then I make a selection.”
It seems that Amorim is making the calls when it comes to who stays and who goes, Rashford looks likely to be moving closer to an exit, either in this window or in the summer. Clubs in Saudi Arabia continue to be linked with Rashford but the Englishman has reportedly made it clear that he won’t be heading to the middle east at this point in his career. Italian outfit Napoli are reported to be interested in the Manchester United attacker and given that Scott McTominay, Rashford’s former teammate since his academy days, who swapped Manchester for Naples and has been thriving under Antonio Conte, the 27-year-old could be tempted to make the move.
