Hyderabad: As Avian Influenza (H5N1) cases have gone up in neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Telangana government has issued an advisory on Friday.
First death from bird flu in the world has been recorded in Mexico. As per World Health Organisation (WHO), it was a 59-year-old who suffered from fever, shortness of breath, diarrhoea, nausea and general discomfort.
Telangana health department on Saturday advised people to take precautions even though no cases have been reported in the state so far. Species which are at high risk of Avian flu include chickens, ducks along with pigeons.
Wild, migratory birds are natural carriers of avian diseases and can pose a risk to domestic bird population. People who work in poultry farms and poultry keepers are also considered high risk due to their exposure to birds.
List of what to do to prevent bird flu:
Avoid close contact with infected birds, poultry
Do not consume raw, undercooked poultry products like chicken or eggs
Wash hands thoroughly after handling poultry products
Use sanitiser and maintain hygiene
Cook poultry to 70 degrees Celsius to kill virus
