Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu became the ‘youngest-ever Union cabinet Minister’ after he was sworn-in to the Modi cabinet at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday.
The 37-year-old TDP leader, born in Srikakulam, is the son of late Yerran Naidu, former TDP leader and central minister and the nephew of TDP state president and MLA Kinjarapu Atchan Naidu. He went to school in RK Puram, New Delhi while he pursued electrical engineering from Purdue University in USA and MBA from Long-Island University.
He left his job in Singapore and joined politics after his father died in a car accident in 2012. He was first elected as MP from Srikakulam in 2014 at the age of 26 and was the second youngest MP in the 16th Lok Sabha. He is the national general secretary of the TDP.
The TDP MP was one of the first to advocate for menstrual health education and sex education in parliament. He also campaigned to remove GST on sanitary pads.
He was a member of the standing committees on agriculture, railways and home affairs as an MP and won the Sansad Ratna award in 2020 for his performance as an MP. He won the election as an MP from Srikakulam with a margin of 3.27 lakh votes.
Ram Mohan Naidu followed his father’s footsteps in becoming the youngest minister, as his father held the record for being the youngest cabinet minister in 1996, a citation read.
