‘Top intent from batters’: Ravi Ashwin lauds India’s batting approach against Bangladesh

New Delhi: India defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs in their second match of the Super 8 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The Men in Blue batted first and scored 196 runs, Indian batters played attacking shots right from the first over and didn’t let the run rate come down despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

All-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin praised India’s batting approach against Bangladesh and said that as fans we’re not used to the attacking approach where a batter scores 20-30 runs and loses his wicket playing attacking shot.

We are not used to an approach where batsmen throw it away after making 30’s 20’s, but it is about time we embrace an approach like this especially while batting first. 👌👌👌

Hardik Pandya scored an unbeaten 50 runs off 27 balls, his remarkable knock was laced with four boundaries and three maximums. Virat Kohli, Shivam Dube and Rishabh Pant also played crucial knocks but it was Pandya’s knock that helped India cross the 190-run mark.

Indian bowlers did a fantastic job and restricted Bangladesh to 146 runs. Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each.

‘I don’t believe we need to get fifties and hundreds’: Rohit Sharma

Indian captain Rohit Sharma said after the match that all the batters need to play their role and he doesn’t believe that batters need to get fifties and hundreds in T20Is.

“All eight batters need to play their role, whatever it is. We saw one guy get 50 and we got 197, in T20 I don’t believe we need to get fifties and hundreds, what matters is the pressure you put on the bowlers”. Rohit Sharma said in a post-match presentation.

“All the batters from the word go played like that and that’s how we want to play as well. There is a lot of experience in the squad and we back them”. He added

India will next face Australia in the third match of the Super 8 at Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia on June 24.
