Fans clash on social media after Virat Kohli sets both unwanted and elusive records

New Delhi: Virat Kohli scored a fighting half-century to take India to a decent total of 176/7 in 20 overs in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa. Kohli played a magnificent knock of 76 to help the Men in Blue register the highest team total in the history of the T20 World Cup.

The master batter who has been facing criticism for his poor form answered his critics with a brilliant knock under pressure. If it wasn’t for Kohli’s highest total of the tournament, India would have struggled to cross the 140-run mark.

India lost Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav inside the powerplay and the precarious position proved to be the perfect platform for the batting superstar.

Kohli combined with Axar Patel (47) and Shivam Dube (27) to stitch fifty partnerships and helped India reach the highest-ever total in a T20 World Cup final.

Kohli took his time to stabilise the innings and recorded his slowest fifty in T20I cricket. The Indian opener reached the 50-run mark in 48 deliveries in the 17th over. As soon as Kohli reached the milestone, Selfish started trending on social media with fans pointing out his poor Strike Rate.

However, Kohli accelerated towards the end of his innings and hit a flurry of boundaries. He was eventually dismissed for 76 off 59 balls at a strike rate of 128.81. In the process, he also registered the highest individual score for India in a T20 World Cup final.

Kohli, who registered both unwanted and dubious records in the same match, found support from his fans who countered his detractors with supportive posts.
