New Delhi: The ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to start on the October 3 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). All the matches of the showpiece event from October 3 to October 20 will take place in just two cities – Sharjah and Dubai. Bangladesh women and Scotland women lock horns in the tournament opener on Thursday.
The ten teams will battle it out in the group and knockout tournament, which has Australia as the most successful team, winning six titles in the eight editions so far. The team won its first crown in the 2010 edition under the captaincy of Meg Lanning, who happens to be the most successful captain in the women’s cricket history.
Group matches from October 3 to October 15
The group matches of the showpiece event will take place from October 3 to October 15 while the semifinals are lined up on October 17 and October 18. The final of the tournament will take place on October 20 at the Dubai International Stadium. Australia, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand are in Group A while Group B consists of teams like England, Bangladesh, South Africa, Scotland and the West Indies.
India will play their first match against New Zealand women on October 4, Friday at 7.30 PM IST in Dubai while the all-important battle between India and arch-rivals Pakistan is scheduled to take place on October 6, Sunday at 3.30 PM IST in Dubai.
