‘I cried for each of them after their victory’: Uthappa & Ashwin get emotional after India’s T20 World Cup title win

New Delhi: India beat South Africa by 7 runs in the T20 World Cup Final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday, June 29. The Men in Blue ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought. After the match, Robin Uthappa and Ravichandran Ashwin got emotional while interacting in the live session.

Ravichandran Ashwin said that he watched and played cricket through the years and also won trophies such as the ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. But the way players got emotional after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 shows that what it meant for them.
“The way that the players emoted upon winning, what it meant to them all, with Dravid bowing out in 2007 to Rohit and Virat coming so close to winning multiple titles, it was truly a full circle moment without any doubt,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

India remained unbeaten in the tournament and became the third nation after West Indies and England to win two T20 World Cup titles. The Men in Blue defeated Ireland, Pakistan and the USA in the group stage. Rohit Sharma and Co. defeated Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia in the Super 8 stage. India beat England by 68 runs in the semi-final. The Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the final and clinched their second T20 World Cup title.

‘I was so emotional’: Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa also shared his emotions after India’s victory and said that he was very emotional thinking about each player and what they had to go through. He also said that he could feel every person’s emotion very strongly and cried for each one of them after the win. He also thanked every Indian cricketer for their contribution.

“To have put with the criticism, the trolling, to go through the struggles and hardships and hate, is not easy. For people to keep continually doubting your ability, you begin to doubt yourself at some point, and you begin to ask yourself, “Is it possible?” I could feel every person’s emotion so strongly. I cried for each of them after their victory. I thanked God, and I now thank every cricketer who has played for India. This win was so long in the making,” Uthappa said in a live session with Ashwin.
