Thiruvananthapuram : Objecting to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s alleged shift from the communist ideology and principle’s, Popular Malayalam documentary director KR Subhash have withdrew the documentary that had revered the Kerala Chief Minister. The decision to remove the 32-minute YouTube video comes days after he had resigned from the CPI(M).
The 32-minute documentary named Yuvathayodu: Ariyanam Pinarayiye ( Translates into ‘To the youngsters : You should know Pinarayi’) was uploaded in 2016 during the assembly elections as part of a propaganda to attract more youngsters to the CPI(M). The documentary had a wide acceptance in social media where it was ‘liked’ by 1 crore viewers and was praised by many in the comment box. The LDF led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was elected to power with a huge majority defeating the UDF led by Congress in the same year.
Since then, there has been allegations against the office of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over various cases involving gold smuggling, nepotism charges where allegations that he was silent over providing undue favours to his daughters software company Exa-logic and other corruption cases. The opposition Congress and the BJP had hit out at the Chief Minister demanding his resignations. However, he was re-elected as Chief Minister again in 2021 and thus disapproving his staunch critics from within the party and from the opposition. However, since then there has been allegations related to financial irregularities against him and his daughter that has surfaced.
KR Subhash, who was a staunch CPI(M) supporter who tried to inculcate communist ideas and ethos in his documentaries feels that he along with a number of party workers are alienated from the party as leaders like Pinarayi Vijayan who according to him was regarded high has betrayed the ideology and principles of the party.
“I have been a staunch supporter of the CPI(M). This is one of the reason that I directed a documentary in 2016 for the party’s campaigning. However, in the last few years it was very clear that he was deviating from the communist ideology and was adopting a ‘Stalinist’ ideology. He is no more a people’s Chief minister, but more loyal towards his family interest and for that we can see the election results”, said KR Subhash to TV9.
However, a section of CPM cadres had criticised the documentary as they felt that propagating such videos about a communist leader is against the policies of the party.
“Once the communist in a man dies, a documentary like this has no relevance”, Subhash said. The documentary was produced under the label of AKG research centre and the release was done by Professor MK Sanu.
