Guntur Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Venkateswar Rao faced suspension for being involved in unethical practices while on duty.
The suspension came after a video of the inspector in uniform drinking alcohol, singing with other drunk people surfaced online.
The incident took place on June 26 and the viral video showed him in uniform with two other drunk people, listening to songs as he was drinking and encouraging the other two to dance.
As per police officials in Prakasam district, recent violent incidents in the state after 2024 elections, the police in the district established a picket in Sankarapuram village, which falls under the Mundlamuru police station limits.
ASI Venkateswara Rao was posted at Sankarapuram village picket and on June 26, he attended his morning duty and then went to the outskirts of the village with two other drunk people. The viral clip came to the notice of district SP Sumit Sunil on June 29 and immediately placed the ASI in vacancy reserve (VR) and ordered officials to conduct a probe into the issue.
The probe report was submitted to higher officials and Guntur Range Inspector General (IG) Sarva Sestha Tripathi issued suspension on Tuesday.
SP Sumit Sunil said that stringent action would be taken action against anyone who is found to be negligent in behaviour.
