New Delhi: Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem made a strong comeback at the Paris Diamond League on Sunday after a long injury layoff. Nadeem finished with the best effort of 84.21m to finish fourth in the competition and closely miss out on a medal. Competing in his first major tournament of the season, Nadeem warmed up in style ahead of the all-important Paris Olympics 2024 where he will be up against reigning champion Neeraj Chopra.
Arshad made his Diamond League debut in Paris on Sunday as he returned to action for the first time since August last year. His last appearance came at the World Championships final in Budapest where he won a silver medal after finishing with the best effort of 87.82m. While he was nowhere close to his best in Paris on Sunday, the Pakistan star showcased consistency.
He started with a 74.11m before improving his throw by a significant margin in his second attempt to reach the 80m mark. His next three throws were all past the 80m mark as he finished with the best of 84.21m which came in his fifth and final attempt. Nadeem, however, failed to finish with a medal in the 10-man field in the men’s javelin throw event.
Nadeem finished 4th behind Germany’s Julian Weber, Granada’s Anderson Peters and Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic. Weber bagged the gold medal with his best effort of 85.91m followed by Peters, who finished 2nd with the best throw of 85.19m. Jakub finished in the third spot with the best effort of 85.04m.
India’s Kishore Jena finishes 8th
In the absence of Neeraj Chopra, who skipped the competition to focus on his preparations for the 2024 Olympics, India’s hopes were on Kishore Jena in the Paris Diamond League on Sunday. However, Jena was far from his best as he finished a disappointing 8th with a best effort of 78.10m. The 28-year-old started with a 78.10m throw and failed to breach the mark in his next two legal throws to settle for the 8th spot.
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem produced a strong show in Paris Diamond League on his return from injury as he closely missed out on a medal. Nadeem wil go up against regning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra in the Paris Games. Other Sports Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
