New Delhi: We’re down to the final two teams of the UEFA Euro 2024, from the 24 that started this competition almost a month back. This has been one of the most exciting tournaments in recent memory as both teams have reached the finals on the back of undefeated runs, with Spain having won all the games they’ve played.
Both the finalists reached this stage after facing tough competition in the semi-final round as they overcame France and the Netherlands. Spain saw off France thanks to a moment of magic from their wunderkind Lamine Yamal as his first goal of the campaign set the tone for their winner, which came within four minutes of Yamal’s strike. France laboured their way to the semi-finals but never looked like the French team we’ve known over the years.
Meanwhile, England crept their way at the last possible minute, quite literally, as Ollie Watkins’ late strike saw them through. Earlier, Xavi Simons had given them the lead through a powerful strike from outside the box but a controversial decision by the VAR handed England the penalty, which was put away by Harry Kane setting the foundation for their win.
This is the second final for Luis de la Fuente and Gareth Southgate with their national team. Both would be eager to get their hands on such a coveted trophy that will certainly cement their legacy in their country’s history.
